Old, wise people say … Curiosity killed the cat. Funny enough, the term curiosity comes from the Latin word “curious”, that means to be careful, diligent, or to care.

Truth is, curiosity never killed the cat, being nosy did. Sticking your nose into someone else’s business will eventually get you hurt. But being curios – probably won’t, especially if you think that curiosity is a form of knowledge gain.

When I wrote the post Understanding people I talked about curiosity, but I never explained what it is. Honestly, I didn’t know how to. So, I went on a mission – I knew how important it is for our work, but that was it. I wanted to know more. I wanted to get a deeper understanding of what curiosity is, and how to encourage it.

The best explanations that I found were the two videos below.  They might not be exactly about curiosity in connection with the UX, but they give us a deeper understanding of what it is, and how to encourage it in our life/work. I always believed we can learn a lot from children…this is one of those cases where that is especially true.

The origins of curiosity

The curiosity advantage

Until next time, enjoy and stay curious!
